Meet the Staff
Pastor Todd Schlitter
Welcome to our site! May it be an open door for a new beginning for those taking next steps toward personal growth – mind, body, and spirit. The Bible has a lot to say about living free from the past and being renewed by God’s grace:
“if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” – 2 Corinthians 5:17.
If you are new to our area or new to our church, I want you to know that you are not alone – I’m new here too! I was just recently appointed as the new pastor at Wesley UMC as of July 1, 2016.
I grew-up south of Sioux City in Onawa, but have lived in a variety of settings. I received my B.A. from Northwestern College in Orange City, and my M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. I was ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church in 1987, and have served mostly in Iowa UM Churches along with four years of service in the Florida Conference. I have two adult children: My daughter Emily, age 29, is a Physician’s Assistant and lives near Atlanta, Georgia. My son Matthew, age 27, has worked as a cook in the restaurant business and lives in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. My wife Beth and I were married just two years ago, and she works at Morningside College here in Sioux City as an Administrative Assistant for Project Proficient in the Graduate Department. Beth also has two adult children: her son, Kyle Bubb, is 26 and lives and works in Orlando, Florida. He enjoys the adventure of working at Universal Studios. Her daughter, Melissa Henriks, is 24 and was just married last summer to Anthony Henriks who is a teacher at Irving Elementary School. Melissa works at Sioux City Ford. She and Anthony live here in Sioux City. Also, we are blessed to have Beth’s mother, Marilyn Hogue, living here in Sioux City. My parents, Dick and Dorothy Schlitter, live in Onawa where I grew-up.
In my brief time of getting acquainted here at Wesley I have quickly discovered a very warm fellowship that is so much more than friendly. It is a genuine place for families of one or more to really connect and be a part of a delightful larger family of simple and sincere faith. It is a church very committed to community service that recognizes that life can get a little crazy and messy at times and yet we worship a God who is The Redeemer of all circumstances.
I love the joyfully relaxed atmosphere here. The style is fresh and open, in tune with the issues of today while being well grounded in God’s Word. You are invited to a place of acceptance and no pressure. Be free to discover the possibilities as you take a look at points of interest in this website. Also, you are welcome to check us out Sunday mornings. We’re a church that seeks to know, grow, and show God’s love in so many life giving ways. You are welcome to join us for a journey of a promised joy, hope and purpose.
Choir Director / Organist / Comtemporary Worship Leader
“Hi! My name is Chrissy (Koudelka) Martinez and I am excited to begin my journey at Wesley with you all! Here are a few highlights of my church music background. When I was eight years old, I began as a church organist in my small hometown of unincorporated Little Turkey and Reilly Ridge playing regularly for Sunday Services. I filled my days practicing the church hymns. Time flew and finally I was a senior in high school. I went and trekked to the other side of the state to Briar Cliff College. I taught beginner piano lessons in college and accompanied the choirs. Shortly after I began to play services at St. Joseph’s, Salix.
For the past 18 years in Siouxland it has been an honor and a privilege to lead music. Presently, my weekdays are filled with accompanying at Briar Cliff University, Morningside College and West High School. On weekends, I am a musician at Augustana Lutheran Church, First Covenant Church, and St. Michael’s Church in South Sioux City. Additionaly, I am an on-call pianist and interpreter. So possibly, you may see me at other churches or businesses.
When I am not working, I volunteer by assisting vocal choirs weekly at St. Michael’s School and Siouxland for Active Generations. On the 2nd Wednesday of the month, musical entertainment is provided at Holy Spirit. I reside in Nebraska and my most valued treasures are my husband and three children, dear friends and extended family, meeting and visiting with people, and growing more in my faith. Thanks for your time and God’s Blessings on all of you, my newest friends :) !!
I feel blessed to have been given the opportunity to serve Pastor Sheryl Ashley and the congregation of Wesley UMC. This church has a passion for serving God, the Siouxland Community and each other. I came here after serving nine years as the Office Manager for Siouxland Youth for Christ. Previous to that, I worked for almost 20 years for the Woodbury County Auditor/Recorder’s Office. I started out there as secretary to the County Auditor, was promoted to Institutional Accounts Manager and before taking early retirement I was in charge of the Birth, Death and Marriage Division of the Recorder’s Office.I am a lifelong resident of Sioux City. I have a daughter and her husband and son who live in Sioux City and a son and his wife who have two sons and a daughter and live in Woodbury, MN. I have been widowed for 15 years and live in Morningside.
Youth Director (Teens Loving Christ)
I began to direct the youth of Wesley back in 2013! Growing up in the Wesley family, it has been a true blessing to be a part of the faith journeys of Wesley's youth!
Besides hanging out with the youth, I enjoy hanging out with friends, working at Starbucks, listening to country music, singing in Wesley's Praise band and cheering on the Chicago Blackhawks, Sioux City Musketeers, UMD Bulldogs, and Nebraska Cornhuskers...GBR!
I am looking forward to another exciting year of TLC and hanging out with this group of amazing kids!
