Meet the Staff

Pastor Sheryl K. Ashley

I am so pleased to be pastoring at Wesley UMC, having begun in August of 2014.  After a rewarding career serving as a pastor for almost 25 years, retirement was what I expected at the end of June of ‘14. However, God’s plans are not our plans. I was called to continue in action because of an “Intentional Interim Ministry” training I had taken over the past year. This means that I am appointed under contract to minister during a period of transition for a church. I have found Wesley to be a caring church and very responsive to being “God’s Light on a Hill,” as I like to refer to us.

My personal life is that I am married to a farmer and live 30 miles from Wesley on highway 20, which is a straight shot to the church, taking the bi-pass. We have 3 children and 11 grandchildren, 6 of which live next door and consider our home their second home.  Life is good. Wesley people are committed to doing good. And ministering in the midst of this church community has been a real joy, as I see the progress being made in this interim time.

Choir Director / Organist / Comtemporary Worship Leader

“Hi! My name is Chrissy (Koudelka) Martinez and I am excited to begin my journey at Wesley with you all! Here are a few highlights of my church music background. When I was eight years old, I began as a church organist in my small hometown of unincorporated Little Turkey and Reilly Ridge playing regularly for Sunday Services. I filled my days practicing the church hymns.  Time flew and finally I was a senior in high school.  I went and trekked to the other side of the state to Briar Cliff College. I taught beginner piano lessons in college and accompanied the choirs. Shortly after I began to play services at St. Joseph’s, Salix.

For the past 18 years in Siouxland it has been an honor and a privilege to lead music.  Presently, my weekdays are filled with accompanying at Briar Cliff University, Morningside College and West High School.  On weekends, I am a musician at Augustana Lutheran Church, First Covenant Church, and St. Michael’s Church in South Sioux City.  Additionaly, I am an on-call pianist and interpreter.  So possibly, you may see me at other churches or businesses.

When I am not working, I volunteer by assisting vocal choirs weekly at St. Michael’s School and Siouxland for Active Generations. On the 2nd Wednesday of the month, musical entertainment is provided at Holy Spirit. I reside in Nebraska and my most valued treasures are my husband and three children, dear friends and extended family, meeting and visiting with people, and growing more in my faith.  Thanks for your time and God’s Blessings on all of you, my newest friends :) !!
